What Singing Means for Me

We often sang as a family, in rounds and harmonies; before meals, round a camp-fire, to keep four children occupied on long car journeys (in those pre-techy times), carols at Christmas…

Now I consider singing, especially in harmony with others, my simplest, surest, fast-track to joy.

That’s why I love singing with others, and am in constant gratitude that I earn my living by offering something which generates such reciprocal sense of well-being, connection and happiness.

Community Singing Groups in Norfolk

Most of my Song Work is offered in Norfolk, particularly North Norfolk, where I live. Sessions are friendly, fun and up-lifting. You are welcome to come along and try one – they are all ‘drop-in’ with no termly commitment. No singing experience is necessary and all songs are taught by ear and repetition.

I draw on rounds and harmony songs from all over the world, from different folk or spiritual traditions, as well as songs and chants written more recently for group singing. There is a growing movement of ‘Natural Voice Practitioners’ (see www.naturalvoice.net) who believe that everyone can and should sing if it brings them joy.

I run my own groups, and offer workshops on request. I sometimes host workshops with guest singing teachers (eg David Burbidge of Lakeland Voices, Cumbria and Caz Jeffreys from Ireland), and the occasional singing holiday and retreat.
